Medical supplies are far easy to obtain these days. It’s become so convenient that you don’t even have to break a sweat. Decades ago, you would have a tough time getting various products from medical supplies store in Singapore and other parts of the world. A century ago, it would probably take you a day or two just to be able to buy the necessary materials to clean a wound. And if you didn’t there’s a high chance that the grim reaper would be visiting you shortly.
It’s a scary thought but it is real. There have been countless written accounts of people meeting their demise because they lacked the necessary medical supplies to be treated. And this wasn’t a quick death either. It was slow and agonizing death. So thank you science for all the good things you have given to humankind. More importantly, it is also worth thanking technology for making it possible to get the needed medical supplies at a moment’s notice. Without technology being able to connect patients and consumers with medical supplies online, things would have been a lot different and the world would be a darker place to live in.
So let’s talk about what’s changed and what was the norm decades or even centuries ago.
Without modern technology like the Internet, it was hard to obtain either medicine or medical supplies and as a result more people died due to the simplest reasons. The roads were horrible and transportation was a joke too so it was really tough for people. These days we have the Internet and we have cars and motorbikes automatically solving the problem of transportation and communication. People can now connect to their WiFi and go on an impromptu medical equipment online shopping. They would be able to expect whatever medical they would need on their doorsteps in minutes at the least and within 24 hours at most.
Technology like the Internet has also made it possible for people to know exactly what they need for their situation. Running out of gauze or bandages to clean your wounds by yourself? Go online and order the stuff you would need and have it delivered to you. In the old days that wouldn’t be the case.
An analogy for this could be set in a war where the medic tends to the injured and runs out supplies. Will the field doctor just quit and leave? Or will he look for a way to get these bandages and other supplies? Had this same doctor been in the modern era, he could have easily ordered or communicated what he needed and in turn save more lives.
Lastly, technology has made it possible to connect to a professional at a rapid pace. Centuries ago, you need to cover a large distance to be able to call a doctor. Or if a doctor is not available, a medical professional who has been trained to deliver first aid. Either way, technology has made it that you can call your doctor to ask medical related questions. This ability can also help you change the outcome of the situation from death.
